A comforting Southern staple, this moist banana bread is perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a snack, bursting with banana flavor.
Ingredients
- 3 to 4 ripe bananas, mashed
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare a 9×5-inch loaf pan by greasing it or lining it with parchment paper.
- Mash the bananas in a large bowl until smooth.
- Mix in the melted butter until thoroughly combined.
- Add the sugar, mixing until smooth. Incorporate the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, followed by the vanilla.
- Whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a separate bowl.
- Fold the dry mixture into the banana mixture just until combined.
- If using, fold in the nuts.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
- Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let cool before removing from the pan, and enjoy!
Notes
For the best results, use well overripe bananas for sweetness and rich flavor. Consider adding chocolate chips or dried fruit for variety.
